What’s the difference between the B-series and the X-series balers?
B series balers are suitable for compacting cardboard, paper and dry soft plastic. All B series balers are characterised by a classic design with cylinders on top. X series balers are our heavy-duty line of machines that are suitable for numerous types of waste materials. These balers have a low overall height due to the cross cylinders, which makes installation simple and easy. Furthermore, our X series balers have the lowest noise level in the market – an appreciable bonus for your employees and their working environment.
Do you have balers in other colours?
Yes, we do, but other colours are special orders and will come at a higher cost. The colour of our balers is a safety benefit. According to basic human bio psychology, yellow captures our attention more than any other colour. The yellow colour of our balers means that they are very easy to see in any type of working environment, which reduces the risk of accidents.
Can I get a baler with an automatic door?
Yes. We offer balers with an automatic door solution. The Automatic Door is a unique sliding door that closes and opens automatically after each press cycle. When you have finished filling your material into the chamber, you simply press the button to start the machine. The door closes automatically and re-opens after the press cycle is done. In this way, the upper door stays open, constantly ready for more filling. This gives you a fast and rational waste filling without needing to manually open the door when you have your hands full.
How much noise does a baler make?
Our balers are generally very silent. They can be placed directly in the working environment without any negative affect. The noise level of our B-series balers is very low. They never exceed 57-68 decibels – the equivalent of an air conditioning system or a vacuum cleaner. However, for whisper low noise level, try our range of X-series balers. They have extra low noise level that never exceeds 59 decibels. The same as conversational speech.
What compaction ratio can I expect when I compact my waste?
For cardboard and low density plastic, compaction ratios of up to 10:1 are realistic.
Can I get a baler with a door that doesn’t open outwards?
We have different door solutions that do not open outwards. The Vertical Door for our B-series balers is manual and opens vertically upwards to give you more space around the baler – and free access to the chamber from both sides. The Automatic Sliding Door for our X-series balers is fully automatic and opens vertically downwards. It stays open and is an excellent solution for quick and easy filling. These door types are suitable if you need to place the baler in narrow places.
What can I put in a baler?
There are different baler models available to tackle different kinds of waste streams – and you might be surprised about just how many types of waste that you can put in a suitable baler. How large are the bales made by a vertical baler?
The size and weight of the bale depends on waste type and the size of your baler. Machines in our series of small footprint balers make bales that are easy to handle. Baler models B3 and B4 can even be set to make bales that are no heavier than 25-30 kg. Bales from our small series weigh between 30-100 kg (for cardboard) and 40-130 kg (for plastic). Such bales can easily be removed from the baler with a trolley. Simply eject the bale onto the trolley and move it. Bales made by machines in our range of Medium Sized Balers fit on a standard EUR pallet. They weigh between 200-350 kg (for cardboard bales) and 250-450 kg (for plastic bales), and you remove them with a pallet truck or fork lift. Our Large Size Balers compact bales as heavy as 375-600 kg (cardboard) and 400-650 (plastic). If you want to know the exact measurements of the bales, please check the machine specifications.
Is it possible to handle bales without fork lifts and ramps?
Yes, the B3 and B4 models are the right machines for that. We can set the machine to make small bales that are no heavier than 25-30 kg.
Do you supply vertical balers that achieve minimum 400 kilo bales?
Our Large Size Balers – models B30 Wide, B50, X50 and B50 XL – produce bales that can reach 400 kilos depending on your waste material.
What can I compact in the Bramidan B-series balers?
Our B-series balers can compact cardboard, paper, and dry soft plastic. We always recommend that you consult with a member of our sales team before you start compacting other materials in the baler.
What can I compact in the Bramidan X-series balers?
Our X-series balers can compact many different materials. Besides cardboard, paper, and dry soft plastic, they can also be used for big bags, plastic bottles (PET), expandable plastic, aluminium and tin cans. Please contact our sales team before you compact other materials in your baler.
How does a baler work?
A vertical baler is a machine that uses extreme force to compress loose waste material into a tight bundle, or bale. You place your loose cardboard or soft plastic waste into the baler via the filling opening. Inside the machine, a strong press plate pushes the material downwards. Retainers in the chamber prevent the material from expanding and keep the waste material down when not under pressure. This makes the bale as compact and tight as possible. You continuously place waste in the baler until you have accumulated enough compacted waste to make a bale. The bale is tied of manually by wire or plastic strapping. Bales come in different sizes and weights depending on the size of your baler. A baler enables you to sort your waste directly at the source; and bales are easy to handle and take up little space. They also make transportation and waste disposal convenient and easy. Can your machine weigh the bales for me?
Our machines do not have a built-in scale. However, the bale size and bale weight do not fluctuate a lot and will typically always be the same. Additionally, we offer our BRA-IN monitoring solution, where you can access the bale production of your baler and create reports for recycling compliance. That way you know how big and how many bales you produce every week or month.
Which door type is the most suitable when I need to compact PET bottles?
Our Flap Door is specially developed for handling PET bottles. The Flap Door works just like a chute for the bottles and makes it easy to throw bottles directly into the baler either separately or in full sacks.
How do I know which baler model I need?
What type of equipment you need depends on a number of factors: How much waste you (approx.) generate daily, what material it is, and the volume of the material. How is the finished bale tied off in a horizontal channel baler?
All horizontal channel balers have automatic bale tying and bale length can be adjusted to your needs and preferences.
What is the cycle time of a horizontal baler?
The cycle time is the time from the press starts till it has returned into position again, and you can continue fill in more waste. The cycle time depends on the machine type and can be as short as 24 secs.
What can I compress in a horizontal baler?
A horizontal baler can be used to compress soft materials such as cardboard, paper, and shredded PET.
How do I fill my waste material into the horizontal baler?
We offer a variety of filling options for our horizontal balers depending on your needs, like filling from both sides, from the back, and from the top. Both manual filling and automatic filling is possible. Please consult with our sales team to learn about the filling options.
What is the difference between a vertical baler and a horizontal baler?
The main difference between the two baler types is the direction of their press stroke. Vertical balers compress waste materials with a vertical downward force. Waste materials are thrown into a chamber and a press plate moves from the top of the chamber towards the bottom. When a cardboard bale or plastic bale has been made, it is tipped out of the vertical chamber onto a pallet. Horizontal balers process waste differently than vertical balers. Recyclable waste is thrown into a hopper, and a platen from the side compresses the material with a horizontal force until a bale is complete. The bale is then tied off with wires and pushed out of the machine on two guide rails. With regard to waste types and volumes handled in vertical balers vs horizontal balers, they can process many of the same waste materials. Horizontal balers can compact larger bales and a higher volume per day than vertical balers. Furthermore, horizontal balers can be used with in-ground or above-ground conveyor belts, shredders, and air systems. Such applications provide greater convenience for the consumer and often require less manpower to operate. But vertical balers take up far less space than horizontal balers, which allows them to be easily used in wider variety of applications than horizontal balers. How large are the bales produced in a horizontal baler?
The size of the bales depends on the channel baler. Have look at the product specifications here. Bale weights vary depending on channel baler model and material. Expect bale weights between 200 and 300 kg in the smallest model and 350 and 450 kg in the largest model. In general, plastic gives the heaviest bales and cardboard and paper the lightest bales.
Where should I install the horizontal baler?
The horizontal baler can be placed both indoors and outdoors. The machine requires a solid foundation e.g. concrete or pavement that can support the weight. If you place the baler outside, we recommend that you place it under a roof to protect it from wear and tear. Our sales consultant will help you identify the best place to install your baler.
Is a horizontal baler easy to operate?
It is very easy to operate, but training in correct use of the machine is necessary. We recommend appointing one employee as ‘super user’. The ‘super user’ can train other employees and supervise their use of the machine to avoid accidents and machine malfunction. The ‘super user’ should also be trained in and be responsible for maintenance and light machine repairs.

Can I connect my wet waste compactor to a static or mobile compactor?
Yes, your wet waste compactor can be connected to a static or mobile compactor. Once your waste has been drained, you can collect it in a compactor for further compaction or for storage.
Does it require a lot of service?
No, it does not. Our compactors are designed for long life durability. The machines only require an annual safety check as prescribed by law. During the service check, the service technician will ensure that your equipment lives up to the applicable rules regarding for safety and functionality. We provide a professional service set-up designed to meet the individual needs of our customers, including flexible service contracts. With a service contract, you always have an up-to-date machine with the latest technology and user friendliness.
Can I load the screw compactor continuously?
Yes, you can. The screw efficiently crushes the material into small fragments and ensures that the bulky material does not get stuck or clog the feeder. This eliminates the need to wait for the press cycle of the press plate — which can take up to a minute — because of the screw’s continuous operation. A screw compactor is ideal for fast clean up, because there is no waiting time.
What kind of preparations do I need to do before installing my mobile compactor?
Installing a mobile compactor requires no structural or site adaptions before installation and there are minimal requirements for the foundation. All it takes before use are the necessary electrical connections. Just plug it in and it is ready for use.
Can I get automatic feeding options for my compactor?

How do I know if I need a static compactor or a mobile compactor?
Whether you need a static compactor or a mobile compactor depends on a number of factors. What you need to consider is how much waste you have, what kind of waste material you have, your internal work processes, how much space you have for a compactor solution, and if the solution should be integrated in an existing facility.
What does a screw compactor do?
A screw or auger compactor consists of a large, continuously rotating auger, which is situated between the feeder, or waste collector, and the container. When solid waste is fed into the collector, the screw crushes the material and pulls it into the container.
Is a compactor safe to operate?
A compactor is very safe to operate and requires no special skills. All compactors are reliable and thoroughly tested to ensure that they meet the highest safety standards. Everyone can safely load the machine. All mechanical and electrical parts are placed inside the machine, out of reach for users. Furthermore, several safety features are in place to protect the user. The control panel is placed on the outside of the machine and gives the user easy access to start the machine. An emergency stop is also placed on the control panel within fast and easy reach. Our compactors are manufactured by our trusted German collaborator, Presto. Presto has more than 50 years of experience within the area of environmental engineering and their products are highly recognized in the business. They all carry the EU CE marking and meet the essential requirements for health and safety set forth by the European Union. In addition, two machine groups are certified according to GS, Geprüfte Sicherheit, which means that they have been tested by a German state-approved independent laboratory to prove and ensure their safety. As a company, Presto is certified with the ISO 9001 and SmS, Sicherheit mit System, certificates, which means that the company assesses and considers the quality and safety requirements of their customers and the requirements of the applicable standard. Can I use a compactor for wood?
Yes, you can. However, the type of compactor that you need, depends on the shape and the volume of the wood material. Please consult with us before using your compactor for wood and other hard and bulky materials.
What kind of power supply is needed?
Our compactors use 3 L / N / PE; 400 V,50 Hz as standard. The static and mobile compactors use 16-32 amperes. The screw compactors usually use 63 amperes. You can check the required power supply for each compactor in the product specific tech specs.
What are the benefits of a static compactor?
Because it consists of two separate units, the capacity of the container is approx. 50% larger in a static compactor than in a mobile compactor. This makes the static compactor suitable for very large amounts of waste. A static compactor also enables continuous feeding because once a full container is removed for emptying, a replacement container is instantly put in its place. This eliminates waiting time and counters waste heaps. Another benefit of the static container is that, because it is a static solution, it can be integrated into an existing building or site with hoppers, feeders and solutions for automation.
Can I use a compactor for organic waste?
Yes, we offer special mobile compactors for organic waste, e.g., waste from foods. Organic waste can leave obnoxious smells or leak through the door. Our PHR and PSR mobile compactors are specially designed to compact organic, moist, or commercial waste that is similar to household waste. The press plate in these compactors is self-cleaning to counter smells and the door is sealed to prevent splashing and leaking.
Why should I choose a mobile compactor?
With a mobile compactor, structural changes to the site are not necessary. You simply connect the system to the local power supply and it is ready to use. This makes the mobile compactor a flexible solution that can be integrated into any environment – even for a limited time period.
Can the compactor be integrated with the building?
It is possible to integrate your static or screw compactor with the building, e.g., with a wall hopper that enables feeding from inside directly into the compactor through the wall. This can be an advantage if you generate a lot of your waste inside. With a wall hopper, you can streamline your waste handling by eliminating having to go outside to dispose your waste into the compactor. What is the difference between a compactor and a screw compactor?
A compactor uses a powerful press plate to compact the waste horizontally into a container. A screw compactor, which is also sometimes referred to as an auger compactor, combines crushing and compacting. It is extended with a strong rotating screw, or auger. The screw uses powerful rotations to crush and compact the material. The rotating screw pulls the material into the container. The screw compactor is especially suited to handle bulky materials such as cardboard and wood. When compared with regular compactors, the waste can be expected to be up to 60% more compacted in a screw compactor.
What kind of preparations do I need to do before installing my static or screw compactor?
Before installing your static or screw compactors you need to prepare some structural or site adaptions. The compactor must be installed on a solid, leveled ground. The press unit must be properly installed by being bolted to the ground, which must be concrete or pavement, or by being bolted to the building. You also need to lay out guiding rails in the floor to make sure the container unit is positioned correctly on the press unit. Finally, you need to make sure that you have the correct electrical connection in place. I handle waste that contains a lot of residual liquids – can I use a compactor for that?
There are special screw compactors for handling waste that contains a lot of liquids or waste that is very wet. These compactors combine powerful draining with high compaction. They can be used to separate solid waste material from liquids or to remove residual liquids from waste products. The system effectively drains out free-flowing contents from beverage containers such as plastic cups, Tetra Pak packaging, cans, or PET bottles, or drains sewage sludge and industrial waste. The drained-out liquid is discharged via a drainage pipe and can be collected in a trough or led further into the drainage system. Drained material is easier to process or recycle and the drained solid waste material can be energetically utilized in incinerator plants. Furthermore, the reduction in weight as a result of draining enables considerable cost savings in waste disposals.
Can I have my compactor in another colour?
Yes, you can. All our compactors are available in standard RAL-colours. They are painted with a durable lead and chromate free paint. Furthermore, their large smooth surfaces offer plenty of room for a company logo.
How do I operate a compactor?
A compactor is very easy to use. You load your waste into the machine and, depending on your solution, press the start button to run a press cycle or wait for the press cycle to start automatically.
Can a screw compactor handle bulky waste?
Yes – a screw compactor is designed for handling bulky waste! The powerful screw effortlessly crush even the bulkiest materials. The screw compactor can also handle expandable materials. By crushing the material before it is compacted, you get a much higher compaction ratio.
Why is wet waste difficult to burn?
Wet waste is difficult to burn for two reasons: steam and cooling. When water boils, it creates steam. The steam displaces the oxygen around the flame. With less oxygen available for burning, the flame will slowly suffocate. Cooling relates to the temperature in the burning pile. Water boils and vaporizes at 100˚ Celsius. Most materials need much higher temperatures to burn. Since water has the lowest burning temperature, the temperature will not rise to more than 100˚ Celsius until all the water has vaporized from the pile. This means that the other materials will not burn properly if there is water in the pile. As a result, the combustion process will never be properly utilized if the waste is wet.
Can I perform maintenance on the compactor myself?
No, any maintenance and service should be done by a professional service technician.
What is a waste compactor?

A waste compactor, is, as the name suggests, a machine that compacts waste. They are large and heavy-duty machines that can take mixed waste in large quantities – several tons at a time – and compress them into a smaller and more contained amounts.

The compactor consists of a press unit and a container unit. The press unit compacts the waste horizontally into the container. When the compactor is full, it is picked up by a waste collector. Depending on the material, it is then transported to a recycling station or an incineration facility. Compactors are available in a range of sizes and varieties depending on the type of material and the amount and volume of waste the machine will be processing.

I worry about safety and access to my machine – can I prevent unauthorized people access?
Yes, you can. If your compactor will be placed in a place with public access, you can prevent unauthorized people from using it with a digital auto lock. The lock prevents people from throwing waste into the compactor and running a press cycle. The lock can be controlled with a pin code or a key tag. This way, only you and the people you give the pin code or a key tag to can use the compactor. A digital auto lock can be a good idea if many people have access to the compactor, if the compactor is unattended, or if people have access to the compactor during all hours of the day.
Can I install my compactor outside?
Yes, you can install your compactor outside. Our compactors are designed to withstand any kind of weather. Their robust fully welded steel construction prevents formation of rust. Furthermore, they are treated with a high quality and durable paint to prevent flakey paint and rust. All mechanical and electrical parts are protected from wear and tear inside the machine.
What type of waste material can I put in a compactor?
That depends on the compactor. As a rule of thumb, you can use a compactor to compact all soft materials. Examples of soft materials include cardboard, shredded paper, news paper, paper bags, soft dry plastic, and PET bottles. There are also compactors for wet waste, polystyrene, EPS, and wood. We always recommend that you consult with us if you wish to use your compactor for any other materials than the listed and recommended materials.

Why should I drain my waste?
You achieve several advantages by draining your waste. First, wet waste is very heavy. Draining it means that you reduce the weight, density and mass. As a result, you can use smaller compactors and fewer and smaller containers to store your waste in. Ultimately, this means a reduction in the number of waste pick-ups. Second, wet waste is difficult to process by incineration. Incineration is the process of burning waste to recover energy. Wet waste weakens the burning process and the energy is not released as well if the waste is dry. Therefore, some governments even prohibit wet, moist and undrained waste in incineration facilities.
Can I compact contaminated EPS / XPS / EPE / EPP material?
Yes, you can. Dirty EPS / XPS /EPE / EPP and similar materials are not a problem and can still be recycled.
Why should I drain my waste?
There are several advantages of draining your waste. Cost savings and revenue You can significantly reduce your costs for waste disposal if you drain your waste. Damp and wet waste is very heavy. Draining out liquids reduces the weight and the density of your waste. Your waste takes up less space – and as a result, you can use smaller compactors and fewer and smaller containers to store your waste in. You can also reduce the number of waste pick-ups significantly, because you can store a lot more waste on-site. The result is an instantly positive effect on your waste handling bill. The drained-out liquids can also be collected and sold to producers of biomass and converted into biofuel. Biofuel is fuel that is developed from organic materials, a renewable and sustainable source of energy used to create electricity or other forms of power. Selling your residual liquid as biomass can help you generate a profit from your waste. This increases the write-off of your equipment. Incineration Drained material is easier to process by incineration. Incineration is the process of burning waste to recover energy. Energy from incineration is used for electricity and district heating. However, wet waste weakens the burning process and the energy is not released as well if the waste is dry.
What happens to the waste after it has been compacted?
After the waste has been compacted, it is stored in the adjoining container. When the container is full, it is picked up by your waste collector and emptied before it is reattached.
What’s the difference between a static compactor and a mobile compactor?
In short, the difference between a static compactor and a mobile compactor is whether the press unit stays on-site or if it is attached to and follows the container. Static compactor A static compactor is designed to stay on-site. The press unit and the container unit are separate units and the press unit is bolted to a concrete base. The container is attached to the press unit by ratchets. When the container is full, it is picked up for emptying and a replacement container is put into position on the press unit. The static compactors are very well suited to handle very large amounts of waste and in situations where the is a need for constant filling. Mobile compactor In a mobile compactor, the press unit is integrated with the container. This means that the entire unit is picked up for emptying when it is full. The mobile compactor is often slightly smaller and have less capacity than a static compactor, because it must be easy to pick up and transport on a truck. The mobile compactor is suitable for applications where space is confined. They can handle a wide range of waste materials including cardboard, paper, plastic, combustible waste or organic waste.
How much waste do I need before I should consider a compactor solution?
There is no simple answer to this question. Compactors are designed to handle large amounts of waste, but there might be other reasons to choose a compactor solution as well. When we make an evaluation for you to determine your need for a compactor we consider the size of your company, your internal work structures and processes, waste handling procedures, your work flow, the time you spend handling waste, and your current solution. All these data help us determine the best solution for you to save time and money on your waste handling.
How much does a mobile compactor weigh?

What’s the difference between a static compactor and a mobile compactor?
The difference between a static compactor and a mobile compactor is whether the press unit stays on-site or if it is attached to the container. Why should I compact my EPS / XPS / EPE / EPP?
There are several advantages to compacting your EPS, XPS, EPE, and EPP material. Compacted EPS, EPE, and EPP material can be sold on to recyclers. If your company regularly deals with polystyrene waste, it can make a lucrative revenue stream. Organisations in any industry can sell their used EPS, XPS, EPE, EPP and similar materials to recyclers. Small quantities can be uneconomic to recycle, but many companies store their compacted EPS, EPE, and EPP material and have recyclers collect it when there is enough to make it worthwhile. The prices vary. Please contact your local recycler to get an exact quote. Many companies make their waste into an extra revenue stream. With a compaction ratio of up to 50:1 (up to 700 Kg/m³ density) you can also gain significant savings in terms of space and waste storage costs at your facility; but also in terms of transportation costs, because you can fit a lot more material on each truckload.

Why should I use a screw compactor for my polystyrene?
With a screw compactor, you get up to 90 pct. reduction in volume of your polystyrene and expandable plastic. Polystyrene and other expandable plastic materials contain roughly 98 pct. air. The screw compactor divides the polystyrene into fine granulates and turn them into blocks that are easy to stack on a pallet. The process of forming blocks is like this: The granulates enter the baler channel via an auger. Here the counter pressure causes friction and thereby heat. The friction heat make the granulates melt slightly. This removes the air and reduces their size. The melted granulates stick together and can be compressed into high density, manageable blocks.
What is a polystyrene or EPS granulator?
An EPS granulator divides the polystyrene into fine granulates. This reduces the volume of the polystyrene by a third. The granulator is fitted with a bag inside the machine that collects the granulates. The bag is easy to dispose of in your container.
What container sizes can I use in a tipping system?
Our tipping systems are for standard plastic containers between 370 litres and up to 1100 litres.
Can I use a tipping system if I have containers without wheels?
Yes, you can. We offer tipping systems with wheels so that you can lift your stationary plastic containers and bring them to your compactor. The wheels come in a fixed or flexible version and are equipped with brakes for your safety.
How does the polystyrene compactor account for different densities?
The machine is fitted with a meter that measures the density of the EPS and automatically adjusts machine settings to fit the density of the EPS that you throw in.
Can polystyrene be recycled?
Many people are not aware that polystyrene is recyclable. But it actually is very easy to recycle. High density compressed polystyrene is easy to process into new plastic or foam products. Polystyrene is reused in almost every plastic product imaginable, from mobile phones, speakers, TVs, and toys. Reusing polystyrene is much cheaper – and more environmentally friendly – than producing new plastic. This means that polystyrene is a very sought-after commodity that is very popular in e.g. China where a lot of plastic is needed for production.
Why can’t I just mix my polystyrene with the rest of my waste?
Polystyrene is an inactive material that doesn’t decay. When polystyrene is sent to a landfill it will stay there forever. Therefore, it is important that you handle your polystyrene responsibly. If you handle a lot of polystyrene, compaction and recycling will reduce your total waste handling costs. When you compact your polystyrene, it takes up less space in your container. How does the granulator turn polystyrene boxes or plates into granulates?
The machine is fitted with a crusher. The crusher contains two shaft rotors. These rotate in high speed and in opposite directions and thereby efficiently cut the material into granulates.
What to do with my polystyrene blocks?
Polystyrene blocks are produced specifically to be recycled. Therefore, you can sell them to your local recycler and if not, we can recommend you someone who buys polystyrene blocks for recycling. Please contact us if you need assistance.
Why is the granulator filling placed so high that I have trouble reaching it?
The high filling opening is a matter of safety. It protects you from getting in contact with the crusher.
Does the polystyrene machine require manual filling?
Both manual and automatic filling is possible. If you handle large quantities of polystyrene, it is possible to connect a conveyor belt or a ventilator to automate the filling
How large pieces of polystyrene can the granulator handle?
The granulator can handle even very large pieces of EPS without you need to break them down first. The filling screen measures 548 x 552 mm.
What type of polystyrene can I throw into a granulator?
As a rule of thumb, you can granulate all types of polystyrene that you can break with your hands. For polystyrene products that are more heavily compressed, e.g., insulating plates containing fire-retardant additives, XPS, or damp EPS, you must use a screw compactor.
What is the life time of the granulator?
It depends on the quantity and the type of polystyrene. Our machines are built very sturdy with reinforced and rust resistant elements to enhance machine life time.
Waste materials
Do you have a small machine that can handle cardboard fruit crates?
If you sell fruit and vegetables, you can get rid of your cardboard fruit crates with our range of medium sized balers. They can handle the largest cardboard fruit crates, face pack boxes, and fruit stacker boxes in the market. You find the dimensions of the filling openings of each baler under the product specifications.
Can I compact cans?
Yes, you may use a baler for compacting light metal waste like food cans and aluminium cans. You need a baler with a relatively high press force to compact empty aluminium cans. It is important that the material is well compacted from the very first press cycle. Our X-series balers, which have cross cylinders with long cylinder strokes, are very suitable for this purpose. We recommend that you put a layer of cardboard at the bottom and on top of the bale to keep it stable. Sometimes you might also benefit from wrapping the finished bale with plastic film.
Can I compress oil drums?
Yes, you can. Our drum press is designed to compress oil drums and other drums without explosive contents. It is suitable for drums up to 200 litres. Spikes in the press plate puncture the drum and remove air for a compaction ratio of up to 90 pct.
How can I compact soft plastic?
You can compact soft plastic in all our balers. The choice of machine depends on the volumes and shape of your material. Soft plastic is a valuable recyclable material. It can be found in many different products, but the majority is found as stretch film or plastic wrapping for goods delivered on pallets, soft carrier bags, and bin liners. The price for a bale of soft plastic depends on the purity of the material, meaning the better sorted the higher value.
Can I compact aluminium waste?
Yes, you can compact aluminium waste in our X30 and X50 balers. To get the tightest bales, it is important that the aluminium is compacted very hard from the very first press cycle. Our X-series balers have long internal cylinders and can reach the bottom of the baler with a very hard press force. This is called a long stroke. The result is optimally compressed aluminium waste, even if the baler is almost empty. We recommend that you put a layer of cardboard on the top and at the bottom of the bale to keep it stabile. You may also benefit from wrapping plastic film around the finished bale.
Is it possible to compact hard materials like scrap metal and wooden crates?
This we would need to investigate deeper based on the specific material. In some cases, it is possible in our X models. However, it might need to be shredded before compaction. Please consult one of our sales specialists if you want to compact these materials.
Do I need to clean the cans before compressing them?
No, you don’t need to clean the cans before compressing them. The most important thing is that they are empty. However, we supply balers with draining system and a drip tray to handle residual liquids from cans. To prolong the service life of your machine you may consider a galvanized model.
How to get rid of empty shoe boxes that take up a lot of space?
Our range of small footprint balers don’t take up a lot of space and you can easily throw whole shoe boxes and boxes from boots right in. You can find the dimensions of the filling openings of each baler under the product specifications.
Do you have a compaction solution for recyclables that contain residual liquid?
We offer a draining system that combines baling and draining in one step. This solution is very useful if you handle a lot of waste with residual liquids e.g. aluminum cans from soda and beer and PET bottles. The lower part of the door is sealed to prevent splashing. You can read more about our draining solutions here. (Link til Option Draining) If you compact residual liquids and want a prolonged service life of your baler, choose a galvanized model.
Do I need to clean the oil drums before compressing them?
No, you don’t need to clean the drums before compressing them. Just make sure that they don’t contain any residual potentially explosive and hazardous material.
Can I use the same machine for cardboard and plastic?
Yes, you can easily use the same machine for both cardboard and plastic, but not at the same time. We recommend that you sort your waste and make separate bales. Use recycling racks to sort and collect soft plastic waste while you compact cardboard. When you have collected enough bags of plastic, compact a bale.
What type of cans can I compress in my baler?
All types of cans! You can compress aluminium cans, tin cans, paint cans, food cans etc. All types of hazardous and non-hazardous cans op to 30 litres, but you can’t compress pressurised spray cans.
Can I put folded and broken down cardboard boxes in the baler?
You can, but your work flow will be more efficient if put whole boxes into the baler. This way you optimize your own time and you get a higher density bale.
Do you have a baler that can handle wide boxes from TVs?
Don’t worry. Most of our balers can effortlessly handle boxes from 60” widescreen TVs. Our widest baler, the B30 Wide and X40 Wide, can even handle empty packaging from 65” widescreen TVs, and you need not break down the boxes first. Look for the dimensions of the filling openings of each baler under the product specifications.
Can I compact PET bottles?
Yes, you can. Our X-series balers can compact PET bottles. PET material is widely known from soft drink and water bottles, but you will also find PET material used for e.g. drinking cups and smaller food containers. Before compacting plastic bottles, you need to perforate them or take off the lids. If you don’t, the bottles will contain a lot of air and the bale will not be as tight and compact. To make the finished PET bale more stabile when compacting in a vertical baler, we recommend that you put a layer of cardboard at the bottom and on top of the finished bale.
Can cardboard boxes be recycled?
Yes, very easily actually. When not wet or contaminated with food or oil, cardboard is recyclable. As a matter of fact, cardboard can be recycled many times over. Some cardboard is made from almost 100% recycled materials, while most cardboard is made from an average of 70% to 90% recycled material. When used cardboard arrives at the paper mill, it is sorted shredded and pulped. Shredding breaks the cardboard into teeny tiny pieces, which are mixed with water and chemicals to break down the fibers. This is known as pulping. A thorough filtering process cleans the pulp of things such as tape, glue, metal clips, and dyes and ink. The clean pulp is put to dry. When it dries, the pulp becomes solid sheets called linerboards. The linerboards are then glued together layer by layer to create new cardboard, e.g. used to manufacture cardboard boxes and packaging. Recycling cardboard is an easy way to reduce environmental footprint and degradation. It also reduces production costs of new cardboard because no extraneous materials and energy is needed to manufacture new cardboard boxes.
Installation and operation
How do I know when the baler is full?
A full chamber indicator blinks when the baler is full. It is a small orange light placed just under the start button. Furthermore, the press plate will stay down on the bale and prevent you from putting more waste into the baler when it is full. You can also add a BRA-IN monitoring solution to your machine and be advised automatically when the baler is full. You receive an email or text message when a bale is ready to be tied off and ejected. With a BRA-IN solution your waste collector can be advised when the agreed number of bales are ready for pick-up. Is a baler difficult to operate?
No, our machines are very easy and simple to operate. Just press a single button to start the automatic press cycle and walk away. Use the threaded spindle to open the lower hatch when the bale is finished. With our unique pre-load strapping system, tying the bale is also a very simple manoeuvre.
If a baler is placed in a public area – how can I prevent unauthorized people from using it?
We offer a digital auto lock for our machines. With such a lock, only you or the people you grant access can use the baler.
Can a baler be delivered for both 440V and 690V power supply?
Yes, it can. Please call our sales team to hear more about power supply possibilities.
Can you modify the power supply on my existing machine?
We can modify power to match most requirements. In some cases, we can also turn 3 phase machines into single phase. Let our sales team find a solution that meets your requirements.
Is a baler safe to operate?
Bramidan balers are very safe to operate. The safety around our solutions meets the highest standard. Our machines comply with the highest European safety standard, EN16500. All moving parts are placed inside the machine to protect the user. To eject the finished bale the operator uses a two-hand ejection system, standing safely next to the machine.
How does tying the bale work?
Tying a cardboard bale or plastic bale is very easy with our special pre-load strapping system. The system means that you don’t have to go behind the machine and struggle to get strapping around the finished bale. 1. When the baler is empty, simply pull the strap along the grooves and tie them at the front of the chamber bottom with a loop. 2. Make a cardboard or plastic bale 3. Pull the straps from the back to the front, long enough to tie knots with the loops you made earlier. 4. A knife is mounted on the machine to easily cut the straps 5. Eject the bale and prepare for the next one.
What kind of power supply is needed?
All balers in our range of small footprint balers use a single-phase power supply for easy installation. Our small model X10 is standard 3-phase but is also available in a single-phase power supply.
Can people under the age of 18 years operate your balers?
All our machines can be operated by everyone – also people under the age of 18 years. However, you must be 18 years or older to empty machines larger than our B3. Due to the built-in safety mechanisms, it only requires a short instruction before all employees can operate the machine safely.
Is it possible to place the machine up against the wall?
If strap rolls are placed on the back of the machine, we can easily remount a new strap roll holder on top. This way, you can push the baler up against the wall.
How long is the press cycle?
The press cycles of our machines are very fast and range between 18 seconds to 51 seconds for the largest machines.
Is the surface of your balers durable?
All our machines are treated with a high quality, anti-rust coating to strengthen and protect the surfaces and prevent flaky paint and rust.
How many bales can I produce per hour?
Number of bales produced per hour depends on the baler. You can produce 3-4 bales for small machines, but less than 2 bales per hour for the large ones.
Where should I install my machine?
Your internal work processes, the waste flow in your company and the available data on your current waste handling will help determine the best place to install your machine. What’s important is that you place the baler so that you can sort and compact your waste at the waste source. Our sales consultants can help you with finding the best location for your baler.
Does a baler require a lot of maintenance?
No, our balers are high quality machines, designed for minimum maintenance and low costs. To keep the value of your equipment high and troubles away on the long term, we recommend a service agreement. Should I place my baler indoors or outdoors?
The baler should preferably be placed indoors. In some cases, it may also be placed outside under a roof, in regions where the general weather conditions are not too cold and rainy. Be aware that consistently cold surroundings can affect the machine’s performance. If you want to place the baler in a place that is very cold, e.g. a freezer room, potential problems with machine performance can be rectified with a special hydraulic oil. Please consult with our sales team if you want to place the machine outside or somewhere cold.
Can I get a baler that ties the bales automatically?
All our vertical balers require manual handling. Automatic bale tying is only available for our horizontal balers
Where do I get wire and strapping to tie bales?
We supply wire or strapping. We offer fast delivery to a place of your choice. Just call our sales department.
Do I have to tie the bales myself?
Yes. All our vertical balers require manual tying. However, tying the bale is very easy with our unique tying system and only takes a few minutes.
How is the oil disposed of after an oil change?
When we perform an oil change on your machine, we essentially clean the oil very thoroughly for microparticles before we re-add it to the machine. In this way, there is practically no waste oil as the oil is reused.
Is a baler noisy?
Our balers are extremely silent. They are equipped with advanced state of the art power packs, which make them the most silent balers in the market. In general, our balers make the same noise as a printer or regular face to face conversation. This means that they can easily be placed close to work spaces without affecting the working environment negatively.
Is it possible to transport a machine to the 1st floor with a normal elevator?
It might be possible, depending on the dimensions and max load of your elevator. If planning transport in an elevator, please allow for extra space around the machine to account for packaging and wrapping. The baler is not delivered on a pallet as smart lifting groves are built into the machine. Let us examine this issue for you to get the job done successfully. When we transport our B-series balers it is possible to lower the external cylinders to make the machine as low as possible. However, this requires extra service hours.
Is it possible to tie the bales with wires instead of polyester strapping?
Yes, both strapping and steel wires can be used to tie the bales. In our small machines, you can only use strapping.
Troubleshooting and baler repair
Why did my cardboard baler/baylor/bailer stop working after a power outage/brown out, it still has power?
It may be due to a possible motor rotation issue. Please call for service.
Why isn’t the baler/baylor/bailer working even though it’s connected to power?
Check the stop switch to make sure it is not pressed. Press the reset button on panel if available. If not available, call for service.
Why does my baler/baylor/bailer stop a couple of inches after top loading door is opened?
It is possible the sensor switch (limit, photocell, reflector) is out of adjustment. Call us for assistance.
Why is the motor on my baler/baylor/bailer more quiet than normal? Crusher/piston is not moving?
It could be due to one of the following issues: It is possible the motor coupler is loose. Call for service. The direct drive shaft may be broken. Call for service. Possible defective pump. Call for service.
Why do I have to hold the start/key switch on my baler/baylor/bailer when it is in auto?
The bottom door of the chamber may not be closed 100%, causing the door sensor to activate. It is also possible the door sensor may be out of alignment and is in need of an adjustment. Please contact us for service.
Why is my bale getting stuck three quarters of the way out upon ejection?
If the unit uses chains, they may be stretched and will need to be adjusted/replaced, call for service. The bale may be larger than recommended by OEM. If the unit is new, the bale could possibly be getting stuck on paint. The ejection system may need to be inspected, call for service.
Why is my baler/baylor/bailer top loading door hard to open and close?
Possible counterweight issue, call for service. Possible sprocket or chain issue, call for service. Possible door bowed, call for service.
Why is my baler/baylor/bailer not retracting back up? The press stays down.
It could be caused by one of the following: Possible pressure switch error. Call for service. Possible stuck valve. Call for service.
Why is my baler/baylor/bailer turnbuckle/ratchet/binder hard to open and close?
To solve this issue, we recommend taking the following steps: Grease the turnbuckle/ratchet/binder. It could be possible that the turnbuckle/ratchet/binder is bowed, bent or worn. Please call for service.
Why is my baler/baylor/bailer bottom/chamber door hard to open and close?
To solve this issue: grease the door hinges. If that did not help, it could be possible that the hinges are worn. Please call for assistance.
Why is there a loud bang coming from the baler/baylor/bailer when it is crushing, especially once it is getting full?
This may be due to a possible cylinder pin issue. Please call for service.
Is it normal for oil to be on top of the plunger/crusher/platen or on the bale itself?
No, there is most likely some type of leak from one of the hose(s), cylinder(s) or the power unit. Call for service.
Why is my baler/baylor/bailer working with the top loading door open?
This is caused by an error where the safety sensor is not working correctly or is being bypassed. Please call for service.
Troubleshooting and compactor repair
How often should I perform maintenance on my waste compactor/crusher/baler?
Please refer to the owner’s manual for the OEM recommendation on maintenance and PM schedules for your specific equipment. Generally, we recommend preventive maintenance at least once every year. Call us to schedule maintenance on your waste compactor, crusher, or garbage disposal.
Why is my compactor/crusher/garbage disposal tripping the main circuit breaker?
There could be a possible electrical issue with motor. Please call for service. There could be a possible weak/old circuit breaker. Please call an electrician.

Check for a RESET on the panel. If none is available, call for service assistance.
Why is my compactor/crusher/garbage disposal not retracting?

Check hoses to ensure they are connected. Push and pull E-stop for possible full reset.

Check site gauge/oil view port for oil level. Check for oil on ground near compactor or power unit.
Is there anything I can do to stop the bad smell/odor on my compactor/crusher/garbage disposal?

Why is my trash compactor/crusher/garbage disposal not working?
Has your equipment been emptied recently? It is possible that the hauler switch is turned off or the main disconnect is off. Check the top switch.

It is possible there could be a jam in the chute bridge. We recommend calling for service.
Why does the oil display/site gauge look like milk?
The oil is contaminated with water. You will need an oil change and inspection. Call for service.

Check owner’s manual for oil information. Most units can use AW32 or AW46 oil.
