Construction waste management - how to make it easier and more effective?
january 06, 2022
The construction industry produces several different types of waste. This includes bulky waste and plastic waste, such as polyurethane foams, polystyrene boards or cardboard boxes and foil. With that said, how can you optimize waste management in the construction industry?
BDO register in the construction industry - rules for waste handling
You should always keep an eye on changes in the regislation about waste management in the construction industry. The current BDO register contains a list of all entities that must keep electronic records and reporting of waste.
According to the waste database, construction companies must record and manage all waste generated during construction, renovation and dismantling of buildings and road infrastructure. This includes all waste types from group 17: Rubble, concrete, plaster, asphalt, wood, metal, glass and plastic waste.
While the process of recycling mineral or petroleum waste comes down to pouring it into large-size containers and transporting them to special storage yards, the remaining waste types, like large-sized cardboard boxes or smaller plastic bottles, require a slightly different approach.
Construction waste is no longer a problem!
General contractors and other companies operating in the construction industry face a multitude of logistical challenges related to waste management every day. Not only do they produce huge amounts of diverse waste (bulky, but not only), they also have to deal with their effective reduction. How do you reduce the overall volume of cardboard, plastic wrap, and hard plastics?
The answer is compaction. By compressing waste in a reliable baler or compactor, companies in the construction sector can significantly improve operations, speed up logistical processes, and reduce the workload needed for construction waste disposal.
Moreover, compacting waste with a baler or a compactor allows you to obtain high-quality secondary raw material, which can be an additional source of income for the company.
With the lowest possible TCO (total cost of ownership), Bramidan machinery makes it easy to budget for the total cost of owning and operating a baler or compactor.
This type of equipment can be used by developers, producers of building materials, distributors and general contractors.
Wondering how to choose the right machine that fits your needs?
For companies operating in the construction industry, the process of choosing a waste compacting machine requires thorough analysis of your needs and expectations compared with the type of equipment available.
Vertical balers
Vertical balers are great for compacting various types of waste, including cardboard, paper, soft plastic, aluminum, and harder plastics like PET bottles. At the same time, these machines are intuitive and easy to use. They can even fit in areas with spacial limitations, like low ceilings or small stockrooms.
Among the solutions recommended, one of the most popular in the industry is our mill-size cardboard baler - B30 Wide. The wide feed opening accomodates large and abnormally shaped cardboard boxes, plastic jugs, and shrink wrap. This high efficiency baler can easily produce 1,000 lbs. bales of cardboard.
RUNI screw presses
The RUNI screw presses will prove to be an excellent solution for a large number of various types of waste requiring compaction, including EPS polystyrene, rigid plastics, PUR, EPE or XPS foams, as well as plastic films and other plastics.
